Today was a trip back to Cleveland this time for the men’s tournament bracket, which I don’t necessarily have as much excitement for in comparison to the women’s side. I had to provide my own transportation for this trip, so me and my trusty sidekick Alex Mikos. Let me tell you… a conversation with Alex Mikos is always an entertaining one. Two hours didn’t seem so bad when it feels like a 45 minute drive!
No credentials? No problem. When you can BS like I can you don’t need them! Well, to be honest I just forgot mine back in BG and had a different name instead of Alex’s posted on the credential expectation form. So with a small fib and my good charm (yeah right) I had the cute little lady behind the glass window giving me written credentials for me and my partner.
We couldn’t broadcast from press row because we aren’t the “official” radio station for Falcon basketball, but I didn’t mind considering were we did get placed. Ever hear of the name Joe Tait? Yeah, Cleveland Cavaliers announcer. Alex and I got to broadcast directly behind his usual broadcast position. I even took a picture of the sticker which labels it for proof! I know, I’m a nerd.
The game, well, it was sloppy. No team could shoot worth a turd, especially from three. It got exciting, but only because it was close. Unfortunately, the Falcons came up short and got an early exit from the tourney at the hands of arch-rival Toledo. Good thing too, I was about to fall asleep right at the mic. My eyes were hanging hard as the game wore on.
Nothing really special about this trip other than we both got lost again and made our way to the players locker room. Nobody said anything, except for our own SID who was the only one questioning why we were where we were, so we got another unofficial tour of The Q.
Got home around midnight-ish, and then got ready to get back on the road to Cleveland the next day with the women’s team.
